Minimum Wage - RM900.00

Do you think that there is a need today in Malaysia to consider on the workers basic or minimum salary! Since independance we do not have standard salary in our labour laws, generally most workers are at the mercy of their employers and unable or do not have the right to bargain better terms and conditions of employment individually, because they are not organised into Unions, therefore they are unable to collective bargaining rights. The Union have been suggesting a minimum salary of RM900.00 per month to the government, the Ministry of Human Resources, thus far nothing has materialised on the matter. Do you thing that the labour laws must be amended to incooperate a minimum wage structuew? What's is your view on this matter?

  1. Since there is no one to discuss or debate this subject or seem interested in handling this subject matter which I believe is of pertinent important to wokers livelihood, and the financial security wholy depends on the minimum salary to sustain his family members. Therefore a properganda of demanding for better wage structure is esential to protect th interest of the workers.

  2. The Minister of Human Resources has withdrawn the Bil 'amendments to the labour laws, when it came for reading for the second time in parliament, which means the government is temporily withdrawing it but might table again for the next session when parliament sits again. It is good news for workers and Unions since the Minister decided not to table the Bil for approval through parliament indicates that to a certain the government is obliging to the voice of the workers. If this Bil were to be passed in parliament then alot of the working population would stand to suffer the consequences as a result of such a draconian law, never in the history the working class has such a law being suggested. So let us welcome, at least for the time being that the Bil has been put to rest, but this does not mean the government would not table it immediately, apparently with much inputs and additional provisions into the Bil. This Bil is withrawn has a result of the mass show of protest of workers against the amendments. Long live the working class.
